About Guilds
So you have started out in Guild Wars and notice people with tags at the end of their names and wearing funky capes. You ponder for a moment and think "I want one" Here you will find a guide on what Guilds and Guild Halls are.
What is a Guild?
Well to put it simply a guild is a collection of players who like to work together for mutual goals. Guilds usually have Capes and Guild Halls. Along with these you also get a new communication channel called Guild, this tab will now be active on your chat bar:
The other nice things you get with a guild are some handy screens that allow you to see the guilds roster, status and guests of the guild. We will take a look at those later
How to create a Guild

Once you have decided to leave Pre-Searing and enter Post-Searing you will be transported to Ascalon City. Once in Ascalon find Baron Egan and speak to him, this is your first step to creating your very own guild. It will cost you 100 Gold to create your own guild. The first step to creating your guild is to decide on a name. The name has to be no more than 31 characters long and has to be 2 words. The guild name must also be unique. The next step is to create a TAG for the guild. The tag will be displayed at the end of each guild members name. The only rule for the guild tag is it has to be no more than 4 letters long. Once you have entered all this your guild will be created.
Guild Cape Creation

Guild cape creation can only be done once you have a guild. To create a guild cape you need to look for Nolan in Ascalon City. It costs 2 platinum to create a guild cape, but once done every guild member gets one free once they join the guild. When you talk to Nolan you will be presented with a selection of emblems to choose from. Along with the emblem choice there are a selection of capes to choose from. Once you have the emblem and cape chosen you have a preset pallette of colours to choose from. You can choose the colour of the cape, and the emblem.
Guild Roster Screen
You can access this screen by pressing G on the keyboard at any time while not chatting. The first Tab that opens is the Roster Screen. Lets work down the screen and explain what each section means.
At the top of the screen you will see the name of the guild, in this case it's Bob's Guild, beside this is the guilds TAG. The tag displays beside each members name in the game so all can see what guild that person belongs to. Next we have the Rank and Rating. As the guild competes in Guild vs Guild (GvG) Matches this will populate with numbers. The Rank represents your place on the Guild Ladder, the Rating will populate each time you have a match, as you win matches the guilds rating will go up. The top 1000 guilds (by rating points) are shown on the Guild Wars Ladder. Beside the Rank and Rating is a button labeld Guild Hall. Clicking this will transport you to your guild hall (if you have one) More on Guild Hall later. Now on to the Roster part, this is the default tab that opens when you open the Guild window. In here you can see at the top the Leader of the guild, underneath that you can see all the officers of the guild and then below them all the members of the guild. As you can see on this screen beside each of the peoples names it shows their status, this will either be Online or a time. The time shows you how long ago that player was Online. One last thing to note about the roster is that when a player is offline the roster will always show the character name that a player joined the guild with. If that player then logs on with another character from the same account the roster name will change to reflect the active character, untill they log off and it will again revert. If while an active player is logged on with an alternate character hovering the mouse over their name will reveal the name of the player character that they joined the guild with.
Status Screen
The next Tab along is the Status screen. This is where you greet all member when they come online and it also has a little info of what been happening. Lets explore this new tab.
The text box at the top of this screen is where you can put a short welcome message, this message will be displayed on all Guild members chat screen when they logon. This is limited to about 185 letter (including spaces) This is enough space to get important information to the guild or just say hi. The only people who can edit this text are the Guild Leader and the Officers. Once the text has been edited it is automatically stamped with the name of the person who last edited it. Below this is a history list of what has happened in the guild. Here is a list of what is recorded in this list:
New member - New members that have been recruited into the guild Members
kicked - Shows what members have been kicked out of the Guild Guild
Matches - Shows who you fought and what the outcome of the match was
All the above that is stored in the history also has a name tag on them showing you who invited the new member and who kicked a member.
Guest
The Guest Tab is the last tab on the Guild Menu. This one shows who has a guest invite in to the Guild. The guest invite lasts 8 hours, after this time the person is automatically removed from the Guest list. A Guest member can participate in any GvG matches you choose to take part in and can also see your Guild chat window. A guest member can not invite any new members to the Guild nor can the guest member make themselves a full guild member. At any point during the 8 hours you can boot a guest member from the guild. It costs 100 gold pieces to invite a Guest member.
